Former mountie receives jail sentence

Mar 4, 2016 | 1:23 PM

A former Saskatchewan mountie convicted of having and accessing child pornography, has received a one-year jail sentence for his crime.

Aiden Pratchett appeared Friday at Saskatoon Provincial Court.

The 33-year-old hugged his loved ones before being led away in handcuffs.

Pratchett was stationed in Fond-du-lac in 2014 when his computer was flagged for illegal activity.

Investigators recovered over 100 files from his heavily encrypted computer — some containing images of young girls being victimized.

The victims were believed to be under ten years old.

The judge said he did not take pleasure sentencing Pratchett, but noted that the former police officer clearly victimized children while in a position of utmost trust.

The sentence was exactly what the Crown had requested.

Pratchett was also sentenced to three years probation after his jail sentence is complete.
