Mar 3, 2016 | 9:39 AM

A 29-year-old man is facing charges after an eight-hour standoff with police.

The incident began at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police patrol members were dispatched for a report that a man with a knife had threatened a 22 year-old man, who retreated and called police.

Before police arrived, a 43-year-old woman was able to leave the house, but there were still a number of people inside the dwelling, including a woman and five children. The kids inside were between the ages of six months and five years old.

Once police were on scene, they were able to persuade two more people to leave the house, leaving the suspect, a woman and the five children inside.

In a news release, the Regina Police Service describe the man as “belligerent and aggressive”. Crisis negotiators were called, who were successful in persuading the suspect to come out peacefully and be taken into custody at 7:35 a.m.

David Jerome is charged assault with a weapon, uttering threats and breach of undertaking. He will appear in Regina provincial court Thursday afternoon.
