Man alleged to be responsible for fatal crash released

An Alberta man was released on a $1,000 bail this morning, Feb. 25. 

Harry Weiss, 64, of Barrhead, AB is charged with one count of impaired operation of a vehicle causing death and one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.

Weiss was arrested on Tuesday Feb. 23, after the semi-truck he was driving hit a SUV, killing the driver who was the lone occupant in the vehicle. Police allege Weiss drove through the centre guardrail, into oncoming traffic and into the SUV stopped at a red light.

The maximum penalty for impaired driving resulting in death is life in prison according to the Criminal Code of Canada.
