One person killed in crash

Feb 23, 2016 | 4:59 PM

One person has been killed in a collision between a semi and an SUV at the east entrance to North Battleford.

RCMP said shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 23 the driver of a westbound semi lost control at the traffic lights at Highways 16 and 40 near the Western Development Museum. Attempting to avoid a rear-end collision, the semi made a turn but careened through a guardrail and the ditch, and hit a stopped SUV in the eastbound lanes. The two vehicles came to rest alongside the railway tracks.

The driver and lone occupant of the SUV was pronounced dead. Police said the driver of the semi was treated, and was in custody facing a charge of dangerous driving causing death.

There was no word Tuesday evening on the identity of either individual. Family members of the victim were still being notified, RCMP said.
