North Stars head to Kindersley for matchup with rival Klippers

Nov 6, 2026 | 1:55 PM

The Battlefords North Stars will look to return to their winning ways Friday evening against the Klippers in Kindersley.

The North Stars split last weekend’s series with the Weyburn Red Wings, losing 4-2 on Halloween night. Despite not coming away with two wins, North Stars head coach Connor Logan saw plenty of improvement compared with earlier games this season.

“The level of jam was up. Weyburn plays closer to kind of our style of game as well. So I think that helps when you’ve got two teams that want to possess the puck and make plays. And with a fast couple of games, I think for us, it was great to see the guys compete,” said Logan.

“I like both games, back and forth. So hopefully see a lot of that jam and that competitiveness and sort of our nature come out.”

Logan said the team is feeling good after a positive week of practice.

“I think we’re starting to find some of that in our group and feel like we’re starting to put guys in the right spots to be successful.”

The power play has been a major struggle for the North Stars, operating at a league-worst 6.7 per cent. They’ve scored just four power-play goals in 60 opportunities this season.

“It’s been a big issue and obviously a frustrating point for us as a team. You can oversimplify it, and kids don’t want to simplify things. That’s when you can really get some results,” said Logan.

“We’ve certainly looked at changing some things and putting guys in maybe more favourable spots for them to make plays and see the ice a little bit better. We’re hoping that pays off.”

The Klippers enter the game having lost three straight, all to the Flin Flon Bombers.

Michiel Leenders and Finlay Klippenstein lead the North Stars in scoring with 10 points apiece in 15 games. Leenders has five goals and five assists, while Klippenstein has four goals and six assists.

Charlie Kay leads the Klippers with 13 points in 13 games, including seven goals and six assists.

The Klippers have won both meetings between the teams this season, outscoring the North Stars 8-3.

The North Stars will try to flip the script on Friday in Kindersley.

The Ultra Print pregame show begins at 7 p.m., with NAPA Auto Parts North Stars hockey at 7:30 p.m. on CJNB/CJNS.
