Families welcome new Riverview Park playground in North Battleford

She welcomed the new slide and monkey bars, saying the climbing features would help her son’s physical development.

The replacement playground at 99th Street and 7th Avenue officially opened Friday, Oct. 23, with parents celebrating an upgrade their children are already enjoying.

For fellow parent Tyrel Smith, the climbing dome is one of the biggest changes. His oldest child is also a fan of the spinner.

“They’ve had some chances to play on it already and are having a great time climbing all over everything,” Smith said.

He said the old playground had served families well but was past its time.

For his family, the park is about a five-minute walk from home, providing a nearby place to spend time together where his children can play safely, he said.

The replacement was made possible by an $80,000 donation from the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs Community Development Corporation, Mayor Kelli Hawtin said.

Hawtin said the space would help strengthen Riverview by bringing families together.

“One of the most spectacular views in the community we can see right here, and just looking forward to families really enjoying this space with the folks that live here, and the folks that visit here,” she said.

For parents like Millard and Smith, watching their children have a good time is what matters most.

“This is going to be the one that he remembers for years to come,” Millard said.
