Oct 23, 2026 | 10:58 AM

Three men are facing firearms charges after a police pursuit that began near Saskatoon and ended in a field near Cando earlier this week.

The incident began around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, when Saskatoon police were tracking a pickup truck previously reported to Corman Park police for dangerous driving on Highway 16 near Saskatoon.

Police said the truck stopped on Baljennie Road south of Maymont, where the driver got out and fired a gun into the air before returning to the vehicle and driving away.

Battlefords RCMP officers responded and deployed a tire deflation device, but the truck continued driving after running over it.

Around 2 a.m., the vehicle stopped in a field near Cando, where its occupants fled on foot.

Officers located and arrested three men. Saskatoon police dog services also recovered a firearm from a nearby ditch.

Walker Higgs, 23, of Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation, faces five charges, including careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm while prohibited, failing to comply with a probation order and operating a vehicle while prohibited.

Dennis Higgs, 24, of Saskatoon, faces four charges, including possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm while prohibited and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Darnell Starblanket, 25, of Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation, is charged with possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and failing to comply with a probation order.

All three made their first appearance  in North Battleford provincial court on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Battlefords Serious Crimes Unit led the investigation, with assistance from Battlefords and Saskatoon forensic identification services.
