It is with much love and heavy hearts, that the family of Charlotte Rebecca Gillatt announce her peaceful passing on Friday, October 2, 2026 at the age of 97, with family by her side.
Charlotte was born February 19, 1929 at a farm near Meota, Saskatchewan to Roy and Anna Boutilier. She attended Richard school, after the family moved to the area and spent her early years there. Following graduation, she attended Normal school in Saskatoon to obtain her teaching certificate. She taught in several communities in Saskatchewan including Denholm, Badger Bluff and Speers. While teaching at Badger Bluff, she met Wesley Gillatt of the Lilac district. They were married in 1953 and so began her 72 years on the farm at Lilac.
Charlotte lived a long, full and active life. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, breast cancer survivor, friend, neighbour and valued member of the community. She had a sharp mind, was hard-working, creative, independent (especially after Wes suddenly passed) and never afraid to tackle a project.
Generosity was also one of Charlotte’s defining qualities. She rarely arrived anywhere for a visit empty-handed and was always thinking of others, whether through a gift, a care package or some small thing she thought someone would enjoy. She would frequently phone someone that she knew was alone or sick. She donated to most memorials, even if she didn’t know that person very well.
Charlotte was a 4-H leader, member of numerous community committees such as the Library board, Richard UCW, and Ruddell ladies- to name a few
Charlotte enjoyed watching and cheering on the Blue Jays and had the opportunity to see them in the Sky Dome. She attended the Brier in Saskatoon and was a big fan of the Brad Gushue team, spending many hours cheering them on from her living room.
She enjoyed travelling and had the opportunity to visit places including Nova Scotia, PEI, Toronto, Banff, Jasper, Calgary Stampede, Roberts Creek, Trail, England, San Francisco and Idaho with numerous trips to the St. Albert area.
She was a devoted mother to her 5 children and found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, travelling to support them in their music and sporting activities. She felt enormous pride and love in talking about their accomplishments.
Charlotte is lovingly remembered by her children: David Gillatt; Sandy (Dave) Heidel and their children Steven and Krista; Gerry (Wanda) Gillatt and their children: Kendra (Tyler) Phaneuf with sons Logan and Lucas, Justin Gillatt; Cathy Gillatt; Susan (Roy) Frenzel and their child, Cat.
