DIVISIONAL MATCHUP

North Stars head on the road against the Kindersley Klippers

The Battlefords North Stars are on the road tonight for a Nutrien Division matchup against the rival Kindersley Klippers.

It marks the second meeting between the North Stars and the Klippers this season. Kindersley spoiled the North Stars’ home opener on Sept. 18 with a 3-1 win at the Access Communications Centre.

In that game, Klippers goaltender Mattias Radke stopped 37 of 38 shots, so the North Stars know they could face another tough test.

“He is a great goalie, but, I mean, we could say that about how many of the goalies we’ve played so far,” North Stars head coach Connor Logan said.

“Accountability on our own play and getting our heads up and finding those spots on these guys, and I think that’s the biggest thing. We have a lot of great shooters in this room, and it’s up to them to go out there and take advantage of their opportunities.”

Now that both teams have a few games under their belts, Logan is hoping for a tighter game from both sides.

“I think it’ll be a different game today. I think they’ve changed a decent amount since that game. I think we’ve changed a decent amount since that game. At that time, both teams were trying to find their game. I think even Kyle (Schneider) would admit that they were working through some different things back then,” Logan said.

“Five games later, I think both teams will be a little more structured. It won’t be as much ping-pong and, hopefully, a little bit of a cleaner game. Obviously, you want the rough stuff and all that, but hopefully the puck play is a little bit better tonight.”

Both teams lost their most recent Nutrien Division games. The North Stars fell 4-0 to the Warman Wolverines, while the Klippers are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Humboldt Broncos.

Friday night’s matchup marks the last of four straight divisional games for the North Stars.

Fans’ eyes will be on the North Stars’ power play, which has struggled early in the season with a 9.5 per cent success rate, scoring twice on 21 opportunities.

The Ultra Print Pregame Show begins at 7 p.m., with puck drop for NAPA Auto Parts North Stars hockey at 7:30 p.m. on 93.3 Beach Radio.
