B.C. Lions sign former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chris Oladokun

The experience will be a very special one not only for the brothers, but their friends and family too, Chris Oladokun said.

“Obviously, from going playing backyard football and playing in the living room … to now playing professional football together is something that we’ll be able to have for the rest of our lives,” he said.

Both brothers are coming off of contracts with NFL teams.

Jordan Oladokun, a 24-year-old defensive back, signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025 before being placed on injured reserve late in training camp.

Chris Oladokun, a 29-year-old quarterback, was with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2022 through 2025, backing up two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes.

The native of Tampa, Fla., won Super Bowls with the Chiefs in both 2023 and 2024, and described his time there as “some of the most fun I’ve ever had playing football.

“Great group of guys over there to be able to learn from,” he said. “It was an honour to play for the Chiefs, and I’ll cherish my time there.”

Oladokun took over the Chiefs’ starting spot late last season when both Mahomes and Gardner Minshew went down with injuries.

The experience reminded him that what he truly loves about football is being on the field.

“Pat (Mahomes) is the best quarterback in the world, and I’m on the sidelines on game day. But to get out there and play, I was like ‘I really love this game and I love playing this game,’” Oladokun said. “So that was a big deciding factor in me coming up here.”

The six-foot-one, 213-pound athlete finished his time in Kansas City with 235 passing yards, connecting on 35 of his 55 pass attempts with one touchdown and no interceptions.

“He knows the formula and knows what it takes to win,” said Lions starter Nathan Rourke. “Obviously, different game here, but he’s certainly got the makeup of a guy who can do it. So no doubt he’ll pick it up pretty quickly and knows how to be a pro. And that’s all good stuff.”

Rourke was named the both CFL’s most outstanding player and most outstanding Canadian last season and has continued to excel for the Lions (7-6) this season, amassing 3,476 passing yards with 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions so far.

Oladokun said he’s looking forward to learning from the 28-year-old Canadian.

“I’m a rookie all over again,” he said. “Thankfully, this time around, I’ve been in professional football for a while now, so I know about different study habits and stuff like that. But I’m definitely going to be soaking in everything I can.”

In order to make room for Oladokun, B.C. released quarterback Chase Brice from the roster on Monday.

“I’m obviously disappointed about Chase being let go,” Rourke said.

“He was a good guy to have in the room. That’s an underrated part about the quarterback room, is just the how important it is to have guys who can be your second set of eyes and know how to support the guy who’s playing … So that’s the tough part about the business. I’m sure he’ll land on his feet, though.”

The Lions also signed defensive back Thomas Graham and defensive lineman T.J. Burke on Monday.

The deals come after B.C. defensive backs Josh Hagerty and Ronald Kent Jr. were each suspended for one game following a melee in the Lions’ 48-29 win over the Montreal Alouettes on Sept. 12. Montreal defensive back Don Callis was also banned for one game and three Alouettes players received fines.

“Obviously, there were some things that happened in that game that were unacceptable,” Lions head coach Buck Pierce said on Monday. “We’ve addressed that as a team, and we’re moving forward.”

The Lions will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday.
