DEMO DERBY

North Battleford gearing up for demo derby west finals

Aug 19, 2026 | 9:38 AM

This weekend, people from across the Battlefords will gather for the 41st annual demolition derby, which will serve as the Western final.

The event will begin at 2 p.m. on Aug. 22 at the Battlefords Agricultural Society exhibition grounds in North Battleford.

The derby will feature three vehicle classes: full-size, compact and minis, and chain and bang. Depending on registration numbers, there may also be a powder puff event for women drivers.

Tanya Beland, president of the Battlefords Agricultural Society, said several local drivers usually compete, but she does not know who will take part this year because there have been no pre-registrations.

Previous local competitors include Darrel Gatzke, Vaughn Fauth, Darren Poitras Jr. and Brandon Kalyn.

Last year’s derby drew 26 cars. Poitras Sr. won the full-size event, Fauth won the compact and mini derby and Kalyn finished first in chain and bang. Zoie Sherstobetopp won the powder puff event.

Admission is $15 for adults, with tickets available only at the door.

Although the event begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, Beland recommends arriving between 12:30 and 1 p.m. She also recommends bringing a chair in case the grandstand fills quickly.

The event once coincided with Northwest Territorial Days, but it is now a standalone event and will be the only activity at the agricultural society grounds this weekend.
