“We learned a new penalty-kill forecheck that was a little bit more effective, with a little bit more timing, and that really gave a new perspective on what you can do on the ice for your own team.” 

Weber also discussed the importance of bringing that knowledge back to the Sharks for the upcoming season. 

“It gives them something to strive for, something to compete for, and just really brings everybody in the room up to new possibilities and, hopefully, to be as strong as we were last year, if not stronger.”

Weber said she and Mucha hope the camp can help improve their leadership skills as well.

“We did come back with a lot of experience, and there were some great leaders and great people we met at the camp who were great role models for us as well. So I think that we’ll bring those qualities back into the team and just try to get our girls to the best possible places they can be and have the best team that we possibly can.” 

For Weber, having Mucha and other SFU18AAAHL players she knew at the camp helped make the experience more comfortable. 

“It was really great. We also had Sadie Green (Saskatoon) and Laynee Rondeau (Swift Current) there as well. So it was super nice to be able to be with them and just experience that with them. I think it made it so much more special that I was with three other Saskatchewan girls,” she said. 

“It was nice to get to fly out with Savannah as well. I’m not used to flying on my own, so that was nice to go through with her — better than going through that alone.”

Neither Sharks player made the U18 national team, but Weber remains grateful for the opportunity. 

“It was disappointing, but it’s just always something to look forward to and something to keep in the back of your mind — to keep getting better and keep working toward. I think that it’ll really fuel our fire going into this year.” 

The two Sharks will have the chance to bring what they learned back to the ice when the team opens its season at home against the Notre Dame Hounds on Sept. 26.
