Residents can nominate anyone in the Battlefords area for a variety of reasons, Reynolds said, whether it is recognizing a thoughtful gesture or supporting someone going through a difficult time.

Nominations could include someone who helped a neighbour, a person undergoing medical treatment, a family struggling to afford groceries or a group of firefighters who could be treated to coffee. Those wishing to protect someone’s privacy can keep details general while still ensuring they are considered.

“The whole premise of this isn’t about money. It isn’t about how much can be given back. It’s truly about brightening that person’s day. Kindness doesn’t hold any kind of materialistic value, but the premise behind it and the purpose behind it is invaluable.”

Anyone can submit nominations through the original Blessings in the Battlefords post on Reynolds’ Facebook page.

At the end of each month, all nominations from that post will be entered into a draw. Reynolds said the selection will be made live on Facebook to ensure the process is transparent.

“This is a tough time in a tough world. People need to know that there’s goodness, kindness, love and community spirit out there.”

Reynolds hopes the project will not only brighten the lives of those selected each month, but also remind people that small acts of generosity can strengthen the sense of community across the Battlefords.
