North Battleford seeks federal funding as arena project moves forward
As the Battlefords continue to prepare for the new Battlefords Arena and Event Centre, a significant step has been made as government officials, chiefs from surrounding First Nations, representatives from the Regional Enhancement Committee and community leaders gathered at the InnovationPlex in North Battleford to update the public on the latest developments regarding the arena project.
The project, announced in late May, is estimated at $96 million and would bring a twin-pad arena to North Battleford, with the hope of attracting larger tournaments, events, and concerts to the city.
North Battleford Mayor Kelli Hawtin said the city is seeking $30 million in federal funding for the city-owned regional facility.
“With local and provincial support confirmed and partners aligned, federal approval would mean that construction could begin within one year,” Hawtin said.
