After the season ended, Cawood received a call from the league president inviting him to attend the opening ceremonies at provincials. 

“Our team didn’t qualify for provincials, so I had a feeling I’d win something. I just didn’t know what. My numbers were pretty good throughout the season, and being a rookie with those numbers, I thought I’d have a good chance.” 

Cawood is the only player in league history with an official record of winning both Rookie of the Year and Top Hitter in the same season. 

He credits countless hours of practice, along with the support of his family, for helping him reach that milestone. 

“It took lots of swings off the tee, lots of practice every day. Throughout the school year, we would drive into Saskatoon four or five times a week. We would have a two-hour practice, then an hour weightlifting afterwards.” 

He added that his parents never hesitated to make the commitment. 

“All the hours they’ve put in driving me to practice, to games. It’s unreal. I am super lucky to have the support that I do.” 

Cawood plans to continue playing with the Zone 7 Sun Devils before pursuing baseball at the collegiate level in the coming years.
