With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Thelma Maureen Van Der Haegen at the age of 81. Thelma was a beloved mother, grandmother, friend and neighbour.

Thelma was predeceased by her husband Dennis, her parents: Miles and Marjorie Poulter; her in-laws: Maurice and Loyola Van Der Haegen; sister Eleanor Beaudion; brothers in-law Wayne Beaudoin, Jim Van Der Haegen and her granddaughter, Emma Mahar.

A devoted farmers wife, Thelma shared a lifetime of hard work, love and dedication along side her husband Dennis. Thelma spent years working at local jewellery stores; Battleford’s Diamond Center, Zekes, and most recently Adora Diamonds. Thelma’s kindness, warm smile and genuine care for customers made her a cherished part of the community.

Thelma was a loving mother to her two daughters, Dennise (Chris) Aspelund, Rachelle Mahar and her grandchildren Kayla (Nathaniel) Cook, Braden Aspelund and Sarah Mahar who were the pride and joy of her life. Known for her generous spirit, gentle heart, infectious laugh and welcoming nature she touched the lives of everyone who knew her and made people feel valued and loved.

Thelma, had a love for flowers and was an avid gardener. She was a passionate knitter and gifted crafter, spending hours making something special for family and friends. She enjoyed spending quiet time working on puzzles and was an enthusiastic sports fan. She had a lifelong love of music and a fun fact is she had her grade 8 piano and as a young girl sang on the radio and at community events.

All who Thelma leaves behind will forever cherish her memory. Her kindness, strength and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

A Celebration of Thelma’s life will be held Sunday. July 26, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Denholm Hall.
