North Battleford Beavers gearing up to face Standard Hill in NSRBL semifinals

The North Battleford Beavers are one step closer to taking home their fourth straight North Sask. River Baseball League (NSRBL) championship.

They swept the Glaslyn Orioles in two games, taking them down 11-3 in Game 1 before cruising through Game 2 with a 9-2 victory.

“We had Hudson Ford who pitched for us (in Game 1) and he had a stellar game,” said Beavers player and team manager Kyle Gregoire.

“It was a pretty tight game up until the fourth inning and then our bats kind of came alive there, we were able to come away with the win.”

Due to weather issues, the Beavers had to play Game 1 on the road, meaning they had Game 2 back at home.

“Very similar, a little slow off the get-go, then we started rolling once we got into the fourth or fifth inning. It’s always hard-fought games against them with regard to their bats,” said Gregoire.

“They have some guys that can really hit the ball. So, we had really good defence through the game there, and just thankfully our bats came alive.”

After the first-round victory against the Orioles, the Beavers now get ready to face the Standard Hill Lakers with a trip to the finals on the line.

Standard Hill earned its spot in the semifinals after a sweep of the Mervin Flyers, winning Game 1 10-0, then Game 2 14-4.

The Beavers know they cannot afford to take the Lakers lightly. They had a 1-1 record against Standard Hill during the regular season, with the Lakers handing North Battleford one of its only two losses all season.

“Some really good pitching and defence. There’s definitely a few guys there who can hit the ball. One through nine, they’re going to be a tough out. So, I think we have to be on our A-game there,” said Gregoire.

“We’re looking forward to the challenge. We’ve played them in the finals or the semis quite a few times over the last few years. Definitely not going to be an easy task for us, but if we get back to our gameplan, I think we’re going to come out on the right side of it.”

The Beavers welcome the Lakers to town Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m., before heading to Standard Hill on July 21 for Game 2. If necessary, a winner-take-all Game 3 would be back in the Battlefords on July 23 to determine who will advance to the 2026 NSRBL finals.
