It is with heavy hearts that the family of Alex Franz announces his passing on June 25th, 2026, at the age of 82.
Alex died peacefully surrounded by family in Saskatoon Royal University Hospital. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his loving wife of 54 years, Jane (née Thomsen), his children Patricia (Scott) Meiklejohn, Jamie (Darcy Albright) Franz, Kristian (Carrie) Franz, and grandchildren Breann, Rachelle, and Carson Meiklejohn, and Cameron, Keaden, and Kason Franz.
Alex was born September 12th, 1943 in Irvine, Alberta to Frederick and Ida Franz. His 32-year career at SaskPower took him to Landis, Saskatchewan where he was a long-time resident. He was deeply committed to serving his community as a member of the Lions Club, Landis Village Council, and as Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department. After retirement, Alex moved to North Battleford where he remained dedicated to community service.
Alex was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved to keep up with the activities and achievements of his children, grandchildren and all extended family. He proudly displayed their photos on every wall of his home. Alex was a handyman, North Stars hockey supporter, Saskatchewan Roughriders fan, and an animal lover who cared for a menagerie of pets throughout his life. He spent many summers tending to his garden, camping and fishing alongside loved ones at Chitek Lake.
His family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Campbell and all the healthcare professionals, both in North Battleford and Saskatoon, who cared for Alex over the last years of his life. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada.
