RCMP in Maidstone kept busy by speeders

May 2, 2016 | 9:05 AM

Spring seems to have brought out the lead foots in the Lloydminster area.

The Maidstone RCMP detachment responded to multiple cases of excessive speed during the final week of April.

Charges have been laid under the Traffic Safety Act after a youth was pulled over after being clocked at 148 km/h on Highway 16 near Marshall on April 26. The next day a truck reached a speed of 161 km/h on Highway 303 near Lloydminster.

On April 29 a truck was stopped after it was reported operating in “a dangerous and careless manner.”

By Friday, a car was stopped again on Highway 303 at a speed of 141 km/h and a truck was clocked at 132 km/h in the Lloydminster area on Four Mile Rd. on April 30.

Maidstone RCMP were called to 85 collisions since Jan. 1 and laid 342 traffic-related charges including eight under the Criminal Code.
