Red Pheasant Cree Nation has purchased 70 per cent of L&L Oilfield Construction based out of Lloydminster.

The First Nation announced the acquisition on Friday, stating it represents a significant accomplishment. A news release notes owning and directing an established, proven business is a major step forward for economic self-determination, as well as source of long-term jobs, training and career opportunities for members.

Beyond employment, the new business is meant to generate sustainable revenue to support the priorities and well-being of the community.

“This is a proud day for Red Pheasant Cree Nation,” Chief Cody Benson is quoted as saying.

“Taking controlling ownership of a company and history of L&L means good jobs for our members and a lasting benefit for our community.”

L&L Oilfield was founded in 1970 in Lloydminster and was a locally owned and operated third-generation family business for more than 50 years. The company has four locations in Alberta and Saskatchewan and has a staff of approximately 250 people and a fleet of over 150 units, pipefitters, gas fitters, welders, scaffolders, and insulators.
