“Being able to lean on the familiar faces that I have played with before in those tight situations, it helps a lot. Last year when I was at Canada Cup, I had also a couple of girls from my club team. We’d be in the quarterfinal, and it’s like we’ve done this before together. So, we know what to do and we know we can do it.”

Over the last couple of Canada Cups, Bugg has taken home hardware, but not the medal she set out for.

“Both of the previous years we got third and we’re hoping to not lose in that semi-final this year,” said Bugg, who is using the previous couple of tournament results as motivation this time around.

“It’s definitely going to make me push harder and I’m hoping to spark that competitiveness to my other teammates with me to really try, especially when it comes down to the semi-final. Since we’ve been there every year before, we’ve got to dial in, we’ve got to make the plays, we don’t have room for error. All of these games go to five sets. So, there’s time to fully change a game around. We have to stick with it and don’t get comfortable.”

Bugg also looks to take on a leadership role in her third year with Team Saskatchewan, even before the tournament begins.

“At tryouts, everyone was so nervous. They didn’t know what to expect. Now that we’ve started some physical training, they’re all nervous and don’t know what to expect. I’ve been there where they are before. So, I’m going to take my experience and let them know, it’s fine. You’re going to do great.”

In her final eligible season, Bugg will be in Regina with Team Saskatchewan from July 21 to 26 as the team looks to take home Canada Cup gold on home soil.
