“It’s always nice to be able to invite people into our space so our athletes can perform in front of their family and friends, but also to be able to continue those relationships with the surrounding communities around us,” said Huxley. 

“It is so important to our club. At the end of the day, yes, we want to grow soccer in the Battlefords area, but we also want to grow soccer in Saskatchewan and be able to provide a space for some of our smaller communities to attend where their kids just get to have the most fun,” said Huxley. 

Heading into the season, the club’s U13 girls team joined Division I, the highest division it has played in. While Huxley said it has been a tough adjustment, it has also been a valuable experience for the players. 

“We’ve been finding it a little bit of a struggle to play Division I teams. A lot of those teams are in the Prairie Soccer League that we’re not in,” said Huxley. “But our girls have been working really hard. They do a lot of homework assignments. They have to work on their juggling. They have to review game footage. They all have individual goals, and we’ve been working through the season by breaking things down tactically.” 

The team has three players in the Prairie Soccer League, which has been beneficial for them and the rest of the squad. 

“It’s very motivating for everyone on our team,” said Huxley. “For the three athletes who are playing PSL, they are motivated to work hard because they want to make sure they show up for their own clubs, but they also want to make sure they’re performing in PSL along with the rest of our roster.” 

The U11 teams also moved up to Division I this season. It was a tough start, but Huxley said they have adapted. 

“Their first tournament was a little difficult. The level of play changes drastically between Division I and Division II. They worked very hard. They came home, went back to the drawing board, and then performed in their second tournament and have done very well since then,” said Huxley. 

This coming weekend, the U11 and U13 teams will compete in the SUSC U13 tournament in Saskatoon, while the U17 boys team heads to Regina for the Sask Cup.
