Saulteaux First Nation man arrested after RCMP investigate suspicious death

A 30-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter by Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) following a death on Saulteaux First Nation.

Battlefords RCMP received a report of an injured man at a residence on June 5 at approximately 4 a.m. 

Officers immediately responded to the scene where the injured man was declared deceased by EMS. 

The victim was identified as 53-year-old Leonard Moccasin from Saulteaux First Nation. His family was notified, and victim services have been made available to them. 

After determining the death was considered suspicious, officers arrested a man at the scene. Saskatchewan RCMP’s HIU took carriage of the investigation and subsequently charged 30-year-old Bradley Redbear from Saulteaux First Nation with one count of manslaughter.

Redbear is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court Monday, June 8.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s HIU continues to investigate the matter with the assistance of Battlefords and Prince Albert Serious Crimes Units, Battlefords RCMP General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Section.
