The family of Maurice Roger MacGregor is deeply saddened to announce his death in Saskatoon on May 26th, 2026, after a lengthy illness. Maurice was born in Edam, SK on February 4th, 1944. Maurice leaves his wife Dianne, the love of his life, to grieve after 56 years of marriage. Dianne and Maurice have 3 children and 9 grandchildren: Tanya (Darren) Myles – Justin (Monica), Lesya, Sascha and Alexandra; Ryan MacGregor (Melissa) – Emily, Ethan, and Matthew; and Laura MacGregor, their mother; Johanna (Bibian) Rajakumar – Amari and Laia.
Maurice was born in the town of Edam, SK to Clarence and Huguette MacGregor. Maurice was the eldest of their children, he had 4 sisters and 4 brothers: Madeleine, Marcel (deceased in a farm accident in 1969), George (Debbie), Jocelyne (Ron Vick), Anne (Gerald Latendresse), Huguette (Dale Johnson), Richard “Rick”, and Ian. Maurice also had many aunts, uncles and cousins; all of whom he admired and loved. In his early years Maurice was especially close to his beloved grandparents, François and Marie deMontarnal (Papa and Grand-Mère), under whose influence he became a fluent francophone speaker, and a fan of the Montreal Canadiens! He was also very close to his wife Dianne’s family: her mother Johanna Tymchak, and the other three children – Michael (Beryl) Tymchak; Sandra (Garry) Wouters and Zane (Barbara) Tymchak, with whom he shared many wonderful memories of family get-togethers and holidays.
Maurice’s life was a rich tapestry of family, educational and career accomplishments, community service and the life of faith in Jesus Christ. He was extraordinarily capable, excelling wherever he turned his hand. He took his schooling in Edam and then went to Teacher’s College in Saskatoon, after which he taught for a year in Luseland, SK before returning to Saskatoon to complete his B. Ed. at the University of Saskatchewan in 1966. Shortly after completing his degree, he returned briefly to Edam to teach for a few weeks. He then won a Service Canada scholarship for post-graduate studies in France, attending the Université de Tours for a year. He returned to Canada in 1967 to take a position at E. D. Feehan High School in Saskatoon for a year, after which he took a teaching position at the Comprehensive High School in North Battleford, where he pioneered the creation of a French Immersion High School Program and I.B. Program. After 33 years of teaching Maurice retired to take on the position of Executive Director of the Province’s Prairie Employment Program (PEP), in North Battleford. Here, in a mission close to his heart, he worked for another 19 years, training and locating employment opportunities for persons with disabilities and multiple barriers.
In the midst of these career accomplishments Maurice found time to put his hand to many other fields of endeavor: he farmed for several summers to put himself through university; he worked for EXPO in Montreal, in 1967; he served in the Canadian Militia; he played hockey and curled; he earned a private flying licence; and, as a crowning achievement, built a beautiful home on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River, in Battleford, which became the happy home of the family he and Dianne nurtured for over 50 years. But, through all of this, Maurice’s passion and heartbeat was directed by his faith in Jesus Christ, focused especially on his love for, and commitment to his wife Dianne, their three children and numerous grandchildren. He will be sorely missed. As a final token of his stature and pilgrimage, he leaves to grieve many of the wonderful care-givers at the Luther Special Care Home in Saskatoon, who supported him with their friendship and love during the last phases of his battle with Lewy Body Dementia. The family is immensely grateful for the care they so lovingly gave to Maurice.
Maurice was predeceased by: his parents, Huguette Marie Amelie MacGregor(née deMontarnal) and Clarence Roy MacGregor; brother, Marcel; and sister-in-law, Sandra Wouters.
