SWIFT SHOP THE CO-OP

One lucky key leads Edam woman to shopping spree prize

For Edam’s Kim Ernst, winning the Swift Shop The Co-op’s $2,000 shopping spree felt almost unreal.

After successfully calling the radio station in time after hearing her name over the airwaves, Ernst became one of 10 qualifiers for a shopping spree contest. On Saturday morning, finalists each picked a key for a chance to unlock a row of grocery carts. When it was her turn, her key clicked the lock open.

10 qualifiers hope they chose the correct key for the row of carts.

When asked whether she expected her key to work, she paused for a moment to think.

“Kind of, yeah… I was really hoping it would.”

With one minute and 50 seconds on the clock, Ernst took off through the store, heading straight for one section.

“I just thought, straight to the meat. I was hoping I’d get to the cheese, but I didn’t quite get there. It was harder than I thought,” she said.

With a limit of two of each item, Ernst quickly filled her cart before making her way to the checkout. In total, her meat haul was valued at $1,158.

“It’s OK that I didn’t hit the $2,000. It’s all a bonus, and I still have more meat than I came in with. I really don’t think I could have fit any more in there; it was quite full,” she said with a laugh.

Ernst hopes the groceries she collected will help feed her family for the next year.
