Missing teen located injured in North Battleford motel, man charged

A man has been charged with several offences after a teenager was reported missing in North Battleford. 

On April 25, at 6 p.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of a missing teenage girl. The investigation led officers to a motel room in North Battleford, where an adult male was located. Officers searched the motel room and located the missing girl in a locked bathroom with serious injuries.  

As a result of continued investigation, 22-year-old Deland (Nipin) Okanee from Turtleford, Sask. is charged with: 

  • One count, sexual assault 
  • One count, abduction of person under 16 
  • One count, sexual interference 
  • Two counts, forcible confinement 
  • One count, assault 
  • One count, obstructing justice 
  • One count, uttering threats 

Okanee will appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on May 22. 

No further information was provided to be mindful of the victim’s privacy and well-being.
