NATURAL GAS FLARING

SaskEnergy to conduct natural gas flaring in Battle River next week

May 9, 2026 | 12:01 PM

On May 10 through May 14, between 6-10 am, SaskEnergy is conducting controlled natural gas flaring at the block valve site adjacent to the Brada Compresser Station, approximately nine kilometres southwest of Battleford and north of Highway 29, which is in the RM of Battle River. Timing is subject to change based on operating requirements.

A 40-foot flame emitted from the flare stack attached to SaskEnergy’s infrastructure will be visible to residents and drivers in the area.

The flaring is necessary in order to perform maintenance work on the natural gas line system and support the safe and reliable natural gas delivery to SaskEnergy’s customers. A part of the gas line will be isolated from the system, and natural gas will be removed from the line in a controlled burn called a flare. This is a standard practice when natural gas must be removed from a line and reduces the carbon footprint of the vented natural gas by 85 per cent.

To ensure public safety, the area of the flare will be supervised, and residential natural gas service in the area will not be affected. SaskEnergy has notified the RM of Battle River and the Battleford Fire Department about the upcoming event.
