Battlefords Pickleball Club annual tournament a success

Apr 28, 2026 | 10:21 AM

The Battlefords Pickleball Club’s annual spring tournament in memorial of Karen Williams was held over the weekend at the nationsWEST Field House with teams from across the province attending.

“Very successful tournament, no issues at all,” said tournament director Brad Wuitchik. “Had a great group of volunteers, as always, and the players were incredible. Some fantastic pickleball this weekend.”

The tournament brought around 65 teams to the field house from in and around the Battlefords, with a mix of local and travelling teams winning it, though Wuitchik mentioned that he thinks the “out of town teams might have had a slight edge this weekend.”

This year was the first time the tournament implemented men’s singles, a division that seemingly stole the show.

“Some of the best pickleball all weekend,” Wuitchik said.

“The skill with some of these players was incredible. (It) was by far probably the most active, entertaining pickleball all weekend on Sunday afternoon. We’re definitely going to do that again.”

It wasn’t just players filling up the field house through the weekend, as they had many spectators to make their way out as well.

“A lot of the spectators were already club members that do play. We had a few that were very interested in the sport. So hopefully we enticed them enough to sign up and join,” said Wuitchik.  “The crowd was right into it. They were cheering and clapping, and it was good.”

For spectators and anyone looking to join, more information is on battlefordspbclub.com and their Facebook

As the season moves on, players at the club look forward to various tournaments around the province and the provincial championship in Regina in June.
