The grandparent scam continues to victimize Saskatchewanians as con artists target the elderly, pretending to be a loved one to lure someone into giving them money.
In April, Saskatchewan RCMP said people in the Battlefords area have fallen victim to the grandparent scam in various ways.
- One confirmed victim paid cash to a scammer who required them to use a specific name and “passcode”
- Recent reports have indicated that scammers asked victims to take cash to a crypto ATM and use a barcode provided to send money to a crypto wallet
