Following Meechance’s death, a total of six inmates were charged with murder and three more with attempted murder.

Cochrane’s sentence will begin after one he’s already serving. In June, 2022, Cochrane received an 18-year sentence for the August 2020 murder of Earl Francis Dufour in Saskatoon.

Due to the fact, two of the co-accused have a pending jury trial, a publication ban was placed on all the evidence discussed in court, which includes the judge’s written decision for the sentence.

The trial for George Custer and Rene Merasty has been tentatively scheduled for Feb. 1 to 5, 2027.

Conrad Merasty, IIlyas Gilao and DJ Montgrand have each been accused of attempted murder and aggravated assault. Like Custer, they are also awaiting trial at King’s Bench which has been scheduled for next June.

Tyrel Peequaquat (Munroe), 27, appeared last month at Court of King’s Bench in Prince Albert and received a 15-year sentence for manslaughter.

Wyatt Crookedneck was in court last August and received six years for manslaughter.

Jonathan Soosay also entered a guilty plea to manslaughter, and received an eight-year sentence which won’t actually start until after he completes a previous 11-year sentence he received in 2019 for manslaughter and robbery.
