BATC donates $20K to support Battlefords Ag Society renovations

Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs (BATC) Community Development Corporation (CDC) has donated $20,000 to Battlefords Agricultural Society to help support renovations on the exterior of the Agrivilla building.

Mary Graham, a lifetime member of the Ag Society, says they applied for a grant through BATC; that’s how they received this funding.

“We don’t have a handicap entrance properly on the outside. Our sidewalks are all falling apart; the fence was broken,” she said.

With this money, new concrete sidewalks will be placed in front of the building with an extension for a ramp on the side. Fences, benches, and greenery will also be added so visitors can better enjoy the area.

Graham said the entire renovation will cost roughly $27,000 with the remainder of the cost covered by the Ag Society.

“Maybe we will get some donations of plants, or maybe somebody will give us some flowerpots. We still may look for those donations, but we can finish the project as we go along.”

Tracy Benson, general manager for BATC CDC said this donation is a reflection of the partnership between the two organizations.

“When we need to use a facility for any events that BATC is hosting they are available for us to rent out any equipment we might need. They are always able to assist and accommodate our needs,” she said.

This partnership has lasted for several years; with the last donation being $10,000 towards the Territorial Days in 2024.

“Our main focus is to develop healthy communities and I do believe that the Ag Society helps to involve the community. It is always community-based in what they do and how they assist the Battlefords,” Benson said.

The Ag Society hopes to complete many renovations throughout the grounds in the next few years to ensure their longevity in the community.
