'WE HAVE 329 ENTRIES IN THREE DAYS'

Community tradition continues with 54th annual North Battleford Kinsmen Indoor Rodeo

Dirt will soon replace the ice in North Battleford’s arena as cowboys saddle up to kick off rodeo season.

Heath Gabruch, a long-time committee member, said the April 24 to 26 weekend will mark the 54th annual North Battleford Kinsmen Indoor Rodeo.

“We’re not a big committee, but we’ve been doing this for quite a number of years. Obviously getting the arena set up is a lot of work, getting the dirt in, and getting it set up in the arena,” he said.

“We have a lot of people that come out for the weekend that have come for many years, and it makes the job easier and makes everything run smoothly.”

During the weekend, community members will be entertained by all eight typical rodeo events including bull riding, breakaway roping, and saddle bronc riding. As well as junior sessions with wild pony races and a sorting demonstration with the Saskatchewan Teen Cattle Penning Association.

“Friday night is also kids’ night, so there’ll be prizes for the kids. They would have received tickets through the schools for free admission if they come with an adult on Friday and then again on Sunday afternoon; we will honor those kids’ tickets as well,” said Gabruch.

During the intermission on Sunday afternoon, the 2026 Kinsmen Rodeo Queen will be crowned.

“There are four ladies that are competing for that, and there’s a number of categories that they are judged on.”

Throughout this year’s rodeo, 329 participants will compete from across western Canada.

“We do have locals, and we encourage that, and we do have quite a number of locals this year. But you’ll see cowboys and cowgirls from all over Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba,” Gabruch explained.

He encourages anyone to stop by the event and take in the community’s long-standing tradition.

“There’s a lot of excitement; there’s great entertainment. The goal is to put on a really good show for everyone that comes to participate. And obviously we’re raising funds that the Kinsman Club will use to help programs and keep the proceeds locally in the Battlefords”

Tickets for the event will be available at the door of North Battleford’s Access Communications Center. Gabruch urges guests to arrive early as the event sells out quickly.
