North Stars back at home for game three vs the Yorkton Terriers

Game three of the Sask. Junior Hockey League (SJHL) semifinals between the Battlefords North Stars and Yorkton Terriers goes tonight at the Access Communications Centre in North Battleford.

The series is currently tied 1-1. The Terriers took the opening game with a 3-2 comeback effort, while the North Stars evened up the series with a 3-1 comeback win of their own.

North Stars head coach Connor Logan is happy for the squad to be back home, and said they underestimated how far the near five-hour drive can feel.

“I expected it to feel a little bit shorter than it was. It was quite a haul to get up there, and it was nice to go up the day before,” said Logan. “Being back home is a lot better. Get to have a good sleep in your own bed and a lot of excitement around the town. We hope to have a good crowd.”

The North Stars, who were in fourth place at home with a 19-7-2-0 record in the regular season, are a league-best 3-0-0 on home ice and are the last undefeated home team remaining in the playoffs.

Yorkton, who had the best road record in the league during the regular season at 17-9-1-1, is currently 2-1-0 when away from home during the postseason.

In the first pair of games of the series, Josh Knittig has led the way in scoring for the North Stars. He has five points (2G-3A) in two games, adding to his league lead of 15 points (6G-9A) in seven games through the playoffs.

For the Terriers, Jye Zawatsky continues to be a thorn in the North Stars side this year. He has two goals in this series, totaling eight goals in six games against the North Stars in the regular season and playoffs combined. Zawatsky and Trae Peterson (1G-1A) are tied for the team lead in points this series with two each in a pair of games.

After their game two win, the North Stars look to keep the momentum going.

“We’re going to try to maintain that position and come up big with two games and then we’ll see from there. Ultimately just taking it a game at a time, good atmosphere with our guys right now and there’s a good energy,” said Logan.
