Calm, dry weather expected across much of Saskatchewan over Easter weekend

The Easter Bunny shouldn’t get too cold delivering Easter baskets to kids in Saskatchewan this weekend.

Environment Canada Meteorologist James Colangelo said much of the province should be staying dry this weekend.

“It’s going to be a rather uneventful weekend weather-wise,” said Colangelo. “Shouldn’t have too much trouble traveling on the roads.”

Colangelo said temperatures are expected to be a bit below seasonal norms on Friday, with highs between 1 C and 3 C expected, and some low-lying clouds across southern Saskatchewan.

“The clouds should clear up on Friday evening into Saturday, and that should help with some of the snow melting there,” the meteorologist added.

On Saturday, Colangelo said temperatures are set to get a bit warmer for many parts of Saskatchewan, including Prince Albert, Meadow Lake and Melfort which will see highs around 3 C, while the Battlefords area forecast calls for a high of 5 C on Saturday.

“A nice little warm up, but it doesn’t last too long, as temperatures go back down to 1 C or 2 C on Sunday,” he said.

Meanwhile, Colangelo said a low-pressure system is set to move through north-central Saskatchewan on Saturday and into Sunday morning.

“All the precipitation from that seems to miss the bulk of the southern part of the province. It kind of moves through the La Ronge area a bit,” he said.

“It should be fairly uneventful for many folks in Saskatchewan.”

But southern Saskatchewan is not out of the woods yet in terms of snowfall for the season, he added, with more snow potentially falling next week.

“We’re still kind of dealing with these wild swings of weather in the late winter, early spring here,” Colangelo said.

“Looks like we might see a little bit more (snow) on Wednesday afternoon as a low-pressure system makes its way through, but it’s a little bit far away right now. Things can change.”

Colangelo said temperatures have been staying on the cooler side lately because the overall weather patterns in the province are not changing much.
