It is with great sadness that we announce that our Dad, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather passed away on March 7, 2026.
Ray was born in the Wadena General Hospital on December 13, 1936 to Walter and Pearl Oberg of Hendon Sask. His boyhood was spent on the farm growing up and enjoying the best life ever for a young man. But his life was forever changed for the better when he met a young lady by the name of Marion Bray in 1956. Married on December 12, 1958, Ray and Marion ventured north to Flin Flon, Manitoba, where Ray started his career as a milkman working for his brothers in laws. Soon afterward Ray’s application was accepted at Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting in 1960, where Ray worked for 33 years before retiring in 1993. Those were great and busy years raising 4 children, working, hunting, fishing and spending time with friends, and working in his garage dreaming up woodworking ideas. Ray was also an active member of the community of Creighton, serving as a volunteer fireman for 25 years, town councilman and a member of the community club, always willing to lend a hand where needed. After retiring from the mine, Ray and Marion moved to Saskatoon for 8 years and then moved up to North Battleford where they called home until their passing.
Ray will be remembered for his calm nature, kind heart, and wonderful sense of humor. He had a way of making you laugh and think at the same time. Ray was logical and practical, generous and creative, and deeply devoted to his family. Guided by strong moral values, he lived with quiet integrity and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to mourn his passing is his daughter, Lila (Doug); sons: Nyall (Sharon), Ken (Debbie), Wade (Tammy); granddaughters: Melissa (Ben), Katelin (Will), Kayla, Bailey (Leon), Julia (Kyle), Mac (Mike), Madison (Rico), Payton; grandson, Keenan (Jerraie); great grandchildren: Grady, Beckett, Everly, Beau, Bostyn, Grace and Huey.
Ray was predeceased by his lifelong friend and partner of 65 years, Marion and granddaughter Alex.
