Battlefords RCMP warn public about scam caller posing as police

Mar 11, 2026 | 10:56 AM

Battlefords RCMP is warning the public about a scam caller impersonating the police.

Recently, RCMP received a report of a person who answered a phone call from a number that appeared to belong to a Saskatchewan RCMP detachment. The caller told the person to go to a local gas station and withdraw cash from an ATM. The person was also instructed to not go to any RCMP detachments and that doing so would result in the individual’s arrest.

These phone scammers can manipulate caller ID to display any phone number, making the call appear to be from an official RCMP source.

The RCMP is reminding the public; they will never request money or threaten an arrest for making a report to police. If you receive a suspicious phone call or text message: hang up immediately, do not share personal information, do not always trust the caller ID, never send money, and do not engage with automated prompts.
