North Stars in Flin Flon for a big weekend with the Bombers

Mar 6, 2026 | 12:33 PM

It’s a matchup between the first and third-place teams in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League as the Battlefords North Stars head to the Whitney Forum in Flin Flon, MB for a couple of games with the Bombers.

The North Stars (33-14-3-2, 1st in Nutrien Division) are looking for their second straight victory after taking down the Humboldt Broncos 3-2 at home on Feb. 28. On the other side, the Bombers (37-11-2-1, 1st in UPL Division) are trying to avoid their third straight loss after falling in a pair of games against the Melfort Mustangs over the weekend.

Last weekend was the first home loss for the Bombers, who have a 23-0-1-0 record on home ice this year. The North Stars, who have the second-best road record in the SJHL at 15-7-1-2, have an opportunity to hand the Bombers their first regulation loss of the year at home.

The North Stars and Bombers have a near identical record in their last 10 games. The North Stars are 7-3-0-0 in their previous 10, while the Bombers are 7-2-1-0.

These teams haven’t played against each other in almost three months. The last time they did was on Dec. 12-13, when they split a weekend series. Finlay Klippenstein had a hat trick in the North Stars 4-2 victory on Dec. 12.

When facing the Bombers, Klippenstein leads the way for the North Stars with five points (4G-1A) in a pair of games. On the other side, Jack Martin (1G-2A) and Joey Lies (3A) are tied with three points each in the pair of games against the North Stars.

The SJHL trade deadline came after the last encounter between these two teams, so both squads will look different to each other. The North Stars didn’t have defenceman Alex Coventry or goaltender Spencer Michnik the last time they faced the Bombers, while Flin Flon acquired goaltender Charlie Tritt, defenceman Ryder Knutson and forward Connor Miller at the trade deadline from Humboldt.

This is a significant weekend for final seeding as there still isn’t much clarity in terms of the first-round playoff matchups.

Although it’s an important weekend for all involved, it seems more so for North Stars head coach Connor Logan who visits the Whitney Forum for the first time since the 2016-17 SJHL season when he won the Canalta Cup as a player with the North Stars.

The North Stars will be missing captain Anthony Campbell in both games over the weekend, as he serves the remainder of his three-game suspension.

For both games, the Ultra Print pregame show begins at 7 p.m. Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey begins at 7:30 p.m. on CJNB/CJNS.
