Ken was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Shirley, parents, Everett and Gladys Meena, 4 brothers and numerous other relatives.
Kenneth Roy Meena was born on May 20, 1934, and was the second of four boys and one girl born to Everett Meena and Gladys Rogers. He was born in the farmhouse on the NW 4-42-12-W3; the same house that his mother was born in. The family at the time were living in St. Walburg and later moved to west of Ruddell where they continued to farm.
On August 11, 1956 Ken married a local girl, Shirley Florence Acaster who was born and raised in the Ruddell area. They continued to work side by side on the farm where they didn’t know anything but hard work. Work til you got tired and then work some more.
Between them they raised four children. Colleen Marie born January 21, 1959, Sharon Wendy born January 7, 1960, Murray Kenneth born March 14, 1961 and Lyle Arthur born June 5, 1963. In 1972 they moved to the present location N.W. of Maymont, where they continued to farm until their semi retirement around 2004. Being a long-time farmer, you never really retire.
On November 1, 2013 Ken lost the love of his life and partner of 57 years when Shirley passed away. Ken lost a very big chunk of his life and continued to mourn until his passing.
About five years ago it became increasingly evident that Ken could no longer stay on the farm and look after himself, so he moved into Harwood Manor where he received wonderful care by an amazing staff who loved him dearly and whom he loved dearly.
Ken was continually surrounded by other loves of his life; his children and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A loving bond that was evident until the day of his passing when almost all that could be there were by his bedside when he slipped away.
In keeping with Ken’s wishes, there will be no memorial services held and cremation will take place, with a private family interment at a later date. Ken and Shirley will be laid to rest together in the Maymont Cemetery.
