Distress call reporting crash triggers RCMP search near Kerrobert

Mar 2, 2026 | 11:51 AM

An extensive three-day RCMP search north of Kerrobert has turned up no sign of a reported collision after a distress call was overheard on a two-way radio last week.

Unity and Kindersley RCMP responded around 7 p.m. on Feb. 26 after a member of the public reported hearing an unknown man say he had been in a collision near the junction of Highway 21 and Tramping Lake grid 374, with two people injured and no access to a cellphone.

The caller did not respond to further attempts to gather information.

First responders from Kindersley RCMP, Unity RCMP, Luseland Police Service and the Unity Fire Department searched the area on Feb. 26, 27 and 28 using ground patrols and a drone, but found no collision scene or injured individuals. Farmyards, colonies and area residents were also canvassed.

On Feb. 28, a Civil Air Search and Rescue aircraft conducted an aerial search of the area, but nothing was located. The two-way radio channel was monitored and no additional distress calls were received.

Police said no reports of missing or overdue persons, or collisions in the area, have been received since the initial call.

Unity and Kindersley RCMP are asking anyone with information about a possible collision or missing persons in the Highway 21 and Tramping Lake grid 374 junction area north of Kerrobert to contact police.

The investigation continues.
