Ron Friesen passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at the age of 79 after a short battle of Stage 4 lung cancer.
Born on May 31, 1946, Ron lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a willingness to lend a hand whenever it was needed. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Rose Friesen, and his sister, Nancy Friesen.
Ron is lovingly remembered by his wife, Shelly; his children, Pete and Jewelene and family, Jason and Sheryl and family, and Candice and Dan and family; his 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; his brothers Gerry (Sandy) and Gordon (Marilyn); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends.
Throughout his working career, Ron built a respected reputation as a skilled millwright. His work took him across many communities, including Flin Flon, Manitoba; Pine Point and Fort Smith, Northwest Territories; Edson and Hillcrest, Alberta; Tumbler Ridge and Mackenzie, British Columbia. He worked in underground and surface mining, as well as paper and sawmills, always taking pride in doing the job right. Following his retirement in Delmas, Saskatchewan, Ron eventually settled in Edmonton, Alberta, most recently residing in Sherwood Park.
Ron was known as someone you could count on. If something needed fixing, he was the one to call. His knowledge, skill, and steady presence made him a trusted and respected figure both at work and at home.
Beyond his career, Ron had a deep passion for coaching minor hockey in Pine Point and Tumbler Ridge, shaping young athletes both on and off the ice. He also enjoyed curling and participating in bonspiels, camping trips, and, above all, spending time with his family. He treasured gatherings filled with laughter, stories, and the simple joy of being together.
Ron will be remembered as caring, generous, and always willing to share his time and talents. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
