Michnik posts 37 save shutout in North Stars 4-0 win vs the Warman Wolverines

After multiple games throughout the season where the Battlefords North Stars had a shutout bid spoiled late, the North Stars finally got a shutout victory, taking down the Warman Wolverines for their fourth straight victory. 

“Really happy for (Michnik) there. He’s had a string of a couple of really good games. So tonight, we’re really happy that he was able to close that one out. Just an excellent performance from him tonight,” said North Stars assistant coach Owen Lamb postgame. 

The North Stars (32-12-3-2, 1st in Nutrien Division) first got on the board at the 7:34 mark of the opening frame. Josh Knittig walked in on the left-hand side before shooting low past Wolverines goaltender Taye Timmerman to make it 1-0 with his 19th of the season. 

After one: 1-0 North Stars 

At the 5:28 mark of the second period after the Wolverines killed off a penalty, the North Stars power play unit stayed out on the ice. Kaleb Dewar, who replaced the suspended Finlay Klippenstein on the first powerplay unit and shot it over Timmerman to give the North Stars a 2-0 lead.

“We were actually yelling at one of the forwards to get off because we’d like to have two (defencemen) out there, but they had a lot of momentum in their moving pucks, and they were generating. So obviously we’ll take it,” said Lamb. 

Gavin Granger made it 3-0 at the 9:10 mark of the period when a shot from the top of the circle made its way through a few bodies in front and past Timmerman with his seventh goal of the season. 

After two: 3-0 North Stars 

The North Stars got just one goal in the third period. After getting a few chances in the shift, Raiden Zacharias put one on from the slot which was saved by Timmerman. Cole Hines picked up the rebound before finding Zacharias to the left of the slot, and Zacharias slid it past Timmerman to make it 4-0 North Stars. 

All through the game, the Wolverines had a share of chances, but Spencer Michnik stood tall for the entire game for the 37 save shutout, which was the first shutout victory for the North Stars all season. 

Final score: 4-0 North Stars 

With just seven games left to go in the regular season, the North Stars will continue their chase for first place in the SJHL when they face off with the Estevan Bruins on Sunday in a matinee game.
