North Stars cap off dominant weekend with 6-1 win over La Ronge
Capped off by three goals on the power play, the Battlefords North Stars got a 6-1 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves (8-32-3-1, 4th in UPL Division), outscoring them 9-2 over the weekend.
The North Stars (30-12-3-2, 1st in Nutrien Division) got an early opportunity on the power play and took advantage when Owen Nelson scored his 14th goal of the season to put the North Stars up 1-0 just 3:52 into the first period. Linken Fisher had the primary assist on the goal, extending his point and assist streak to nine games.
The North Stars doubled down on the man advantage at the 9:43 mark when Fisher floated a shot on from the point and Kobe Sawyer deflected it out of the air and through the five hole of Ice Wolves goalie Graham Brown. Sawyer’s 15th goal of the season put the North Stars up 2-0, a score that they held onto heading into the second frame.
