North Stars lose shutout bid late, take down the La Ronge Ice Wolves 5-1

Feb 14, 2026 | 1:28 AM

The Battlefords North Stars were able to get back into the win column with a solid bounce back performance, winning 5-1 against the La Ronge Ice Wolves (8-31-3-1, 4th in UPL Division). North Stars goaltender stopped 23 of 24 shots in the win but unfortunately lost his shutout bid in the final two minutes.

The North Stars (29-12-3-2, 1st in Nutrien Division) found early success on the power play when there was a scramble in front of the net at the 12:11 mark of the first period. Josh Knittig put the puck off the post before Anthony Campbell picked it up and slid it into the empty net with Ice Wolves goaltender Graham Brown out of position.

After one: 1-0 North Stars

After the first unit got a power play goal, the second unit followed suit in the second period. Linken Fisher floated a shot on net from the point, and Owen Nelson deflected it through Brown’s five hole to make it 2-0 North Stars at 12:05. With the assist, Fisher extended his point and assist streak to eight games.

Just a few minutes later at 16:52, Nelson and Drew Williamson came down the ice on a 2-on-1. Nelson found Williamson who scored on a one-timer to give the North Stars a 3-0 lead and extend his point streak to seven games.

After two: 3-0 North Stars

The North Stars kept things going in the third period when Carter Geysen scored at the 7:31 mark of the third period. Geysen’s 13th goal of the season and first in February made it a 4-0 game.

At 15:42, Cole Hines picked up a rebound from a Will Kirwan shot and put it past Brown to extend the North Stars lead to 5-0. With Hines’ 10th goal of the year, he became the 12th North Stars player this season with double digit goals, and the fifth rookie.

Serpa lost his shutout bid at 18:07 when the puck was turned over in the North Stars zone before Grayden Perozni scored his eighth goal of the season to make the score 5-1, which the North Stars held onto for the rest of the game.

Final score: 5-1 North Stars

With the North Stars win and Flin Flon Bombers loss to the Kindersley Klippers, the North Stars climbed within five points of the Bombers for first place in the SJHL.

The North Stars and Ice Wolves will face off once again on Saturday when the North Stars try to sweep the weekend series and possibly get within three points of Flin Flon for the league’s top spot.

The Ultra Print pregame show starts at 7:00, Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey at 7:30 on CJNB/CJNS.
