North Stars fall flat, lose 6-1 to the Nipawin Hawks

Feb 10, 2026 | 10:54 PM

It was a tough night for the Battlefords North Stars in the cage, having their three-game win streak snapped in a 6-1 loss to the Nipawin Hawks. It’s just the third time the North Stars have lost by 5+ goals this season, and the first time since Halloween night.

The Hawks took the lead less than halfway into the first period when Mason Karakochuk took a pass in the slot from Raydr Wallington and fired it past Kaeden Serpa to make it 1-0 at the 8:28 mark.

After one: 1-0 Hawks

Nipawin kept it going when Konnor Watson took away a North Stars clearing attempt in front of his own bench before finding Braeden Jockims who scored top shelf to extend the lead to 2-0, 6:03 into the second period.

Later at the 12:40 mark, the Hawks capitalized on the power play when a shot missed and ricocheted off the end boards before Hawks captain Finley Radloff picked up the puck and snuck it past Serpa to make it 3-0.

The North Stars got on the board at the 16:06 mark of the period. After the North Stars were pressuring, Drew Williamson picked up a rebound on a shot from Alessio Nardelli and scored to make it 3-1.

Willamson scored his third goal and sixth point in three games, extending his point streak to six games. With a secondary assist, Linken Fisher extended his point streak to seven games.

The Hawks got one more before the end of the period when Jockims blocked a one-timer from Gavin Granger at the point, brought it the other way on a breakaway and scored to make it 4-1 Hawks with just 18 seconds left in the frame.

After two: 4-1 Hawks

The third period remained all Hawks. At 2:53, Brady Seabrook scored his third goal of the year from the high slot to make it 5-1.

Just a few minutes later at 5:02, Karakochuk initially put a pass in tight off the post before burying it to put the Hawks up 6-1, which the score stayed at for the remainder of the game.

Final score: 6-1 Hawks

Hawks goaltender Gage Roberts stopped 28 of 29 shots and has now allowed just one goal in his last three starts. Serpa turned away 33 of 39.

The North Stars are back in action on Feb. 13 when they head to La Ronge to take on the Ice Wolves as they continue to battle for home ice advantage in the playoffs.
