Feb 6, 2026 | 11:38 PM

The Battlefords North Stars got their second straight victory on Friday, taking down the Warman Wolverines 8-5 in an offensive showcase on both ends of the ice.

The North Stars (27-11-3-2, 1st in Nutrien Division) got going quick when Alessio Nardelli scored on a backhand from the slot through the five-hole of Wolverines goaltender Griffin Wright to give the North Stars an early 1-0 lead just 1:40 into the first period.

Not long after at the 2:51 mark, the Wolverines (11-28-2-2, 4th in Nutrien Division) tied things up when Cam Sarna scored his first goal since Nov. 22 to tie things up.

The Wolverines took the lead at the 7:31 mark on the powerplay when Vincent Palmarin found Pherson Loehndorf, who launched a one-timer past Kaeden Serpa to give Warman the 2-1 advantage.

The North Stars got right back in the game at 11:16 when Raiden Zacharias took a shot from the slot and Finlay Klippenstein deflected it in to tie it up. Klippenstein extended his team lead in goals to 21 which also leads rookies across the SJHL.

Less than two minutes later at 12:56, Drew Williamson sniped the puck top shelf past Wright on the powerplay to give the North Stars the 3-2 lead, which they held onto for the rest of the frame.

After one: 3-2 North Stars

Near the halfway mark of the second period when the North Stars were pressuring, Linken Fisher walked in from the point on the left-hand side and placed a low shot past Wright. Fisher’s 10th goal of the season made it 4-2 at the 9:34 mark.

Like the early first period goal for the North Stars, the Wolverines answered quickly when Kanyan Unger scored to make it 4-3 at 10:05.

Drew Williamson restored the two-goal lead, sliding the puck into the net at the 14:20 mark. His second goal of the game was his 10th of the season, making Williamson the 10th North Stars player with double digit goals this season.

After Kayden Yeaman took a late high sticking call near the end of the frame, the North Stars went into the third period with a power play.

After two: 5-3 North Stars

Just 32 seconds into the frame, Zacharias sniped a puck from the circle onthe powerplay to put the North Stars up 6-3.

The Wolverines were able to get back into when Yeaman and Carter Bergen scored just 21 seconds apart to make it 6-5 just 5:48 into the frame.

At 13:05, Cole Hines restored the two-goal lead for the North Stars, scoring his ninth of the season on a rush to make it 7-5.

With 3:05 left in the game, Carter Geysen and Pherson Loehndorf gave their benches an extra spark, dropping the gloves right in front of the Wolverines bench. After both players traded blows, Geysen took Pherson to the ice.

Adam Konowalchuk added an empty netter at 18:00 to put the nail in the coffin and secure the 8-5 victory for the North Stars.

Final score: 8-5 North Stars

The win was the North Stars’ second consecutive victory. They moved three points ahead of the Yorkton Terriers, Nipawin Hawks and Weyburn Red Wings for second in the lead but remain seven points behind the first place Flin Flon Bombers.

The North Stars take on the Wolverines once again at home on Saturday. The Ultra Print pregame show begins at 7:00, Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey begins at 7:30 on CJNB/CJNS.
