A full-circle moment: acclaimed violinist returns home

A recital marks a return home to the Battlefords for a violinist who has since performed on major stages across the world. 

After captivating audiences at the 2025 MLB World Series Opener and Carnegie Hall, Jeanny Jung is bringing her talent back to a more intimate stage in North Battleford.  The Coming Home recital will take place on Feb 6, at Third Ave. United Church.

Speaking with battlefordsNOW, the violinist said she grew up with fond memories of being involved in music festivals, bands, and community groups in the community. 

“It’s home to me. It was a really small and cozy community. Because of that, it was so comforting and I think there was so much stability; everybody knew each other and supported each other. It’s just a community I very much feel raised by,” Jung said.  

Much like her performance partner from Manitoba, Sabina Rzazade, it was always a huge goal to return to the prairies.

“It really is sort of a dream come true and it’s really surreal that it’s happening now after daydreaming about it for so long. It’s just always been something that we’ve been working towards to be able to do a performance like this back to the community that we grew up in,” said Jung.  

Jung and Rzazade first met when they were paired up in a class together at the University of Toronto. The class required a pianist to play alongside another instrument; they have been playing as a duo ever since.  

“One of the pieces that we’re playing on the program is one of the first pieces that Sabina and I ever worked on together when we first were paired up in that class,” Jung said.  

Although the violinist has made it to some of the largest stages in her music career, she has never forgotten where home is.  

“There were many ‘I can’t believe I’m here’ moments and also moments where I really was thinking of back home and thinking about me growing up in North Battleford and just how far I had felt that I had come in that moment,” she said. 

This recital will not only be a performance for her but an opportunity for the feeling of a full circle moment.  

“It’s really just making me feel like a kid again, going to those same venues with those audience members that I looked up to so much,” said Jung.  

The Coming Home recital starts at 7:00 p.m. Admission is by donation.
