Search warrants in Saskatoon, Radisson lead North Battleford RCMP to cache of weapons, drugs

Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford Crime Reduction Team–Gang Task Force has charged a Saskatoon man following the seizure of fentanyl, methamphetamine, opioids and firearms during searches at residences in Saskatoon and Radisson.

The North Battleford-based unit, assisted by the Saskatoon Police Service Tactical Support Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence on 8th Street East in Saskatoon on Jan. 13 as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

Police said officers seized about 231 grams of fentanyl, roughly 115 grams of methamphetamine and more than 40 pharmaceutical-style opioid pills. A firearm, ammunition, drug trafficking paraphernalia and a sum of cash were also located.

Six individuals were arrested at the Saskatoon residence. Five were later released from police custody without charge.

Later that day, investigators executed a second search warrant at a residence on Goodrich Street in Radisson. During that search, police seized a sawed-off firearm, a handgun, ammunition and two firearm magazines.

As a result of the investigation, 38-year-old Chad Mason of Saskatoon is charged with multiple drug and weapons offences, including possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, fentanyl and opioids.

Mason also faces 16 counts of weapons possession contrary to an order and 11 counts of other charges, including one count of possession of a restricted firearm with readily available ammunition.

Mason appeared in Saskatoon provincial court on Jan. 14.
