Team Canada pride glows bright at Prince Albert home

There is no questioning Russell Sanderson’s support for Canada at this year’s World Junior Hockey Championship.

A large digital board hanging up his garage provides live score updates, and a series of other holiday lights positioned around the property all have the red and white theme.

“I always liked watching the World Juniors so I decided to put something together for Team Canada,” he told paNOW.

Sanderson who is already well known in his West Hill neighbourhood for his elaborate displays at Halloween and Christmas, explained he decided to do away with inflatables this year and use lights which can all be controlled by his phone. When asked how much the whole venture cost, he estimated it to be in the thousands and he added he’s received lots of attention.

“One night we had 109 vehicles and that’s when I had a music light show,” he said.

Sanderson’s 17-year-old grandson John Luke helped put up the lights.

“I like helping him out with tasks and putting up the lights, especially on the roof, because it’s very slippery,” he said.

Sanderson’s passion for decorating started 12 years ago and was influenced by his granddaughter who wanted Christmas decorations. (Submitted photo)

As for Sanderson he’s already planning to go bigger and brighter next year.

Canada, which is 3-0 at the tournament, next plays Finland on New Year’s Eve. The game will decide which team finishes first in the group.

Sanderson plans to run a music light show from 7 to 10 p.m.
