Meota Combines to host Empty Stocking Fundraiser after the Clash of the Battlefords
The Meota Combines host the Battleford Beaver Blues on Dec. 27 for the first time in the SPHL season. After the game, fans will have the opportunity to head upstairs to the lounge where the team is hosting a fundraiser event for the Empty Stocking Fund, a fund put on by the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre.
Forward team manager Aaron Cadrin said it’s an event they put on every year which they try and get a big crowd out for the game and fundraiser. “We have a social upstairs in the hot stove lounge. We get a DJ and Family Pizza sponsors, free pizza for everyone. We’ve got drink specials, and it’s just a good way for everyone who comes to the game to hang out after,” said Cadrin. “We donate the net profits from the social towards the Battleford Empty Stocking Fund. It usually works out to about a thousand bucks a year.”
Cadrin mentioned that due to poor weather and bad timing, last year wasn’t as good of success so it would be nice to get back on track this holiday season. There will be a donation bucket set up which the team matches the donations from that. The proceeds from the alcohol sales will also go towards the fund.
The partnership between the team and Empty Stocking Fund has been running for a long time now. “This will probably be our 10th year doing this sort of thing. So it’s become a bit of a tradition,” said Cadrin.
