Battlefords Christmas

From wish lists to family traditions: that makes Christmas magical in the Battlefords

Dec 24, 2025 | 5:00 PM

The Battlefords are buzzing with the little moments that make Christmas magical – from torn wrapping paper and family recipes to quirky wish lists and traditions that shine just as brightly as the season itself.

This Christmas, battlefordsNOW asked their readers what their favorite parts of the holidays are.

Many children within the community shared similar views when it came to their favorite parts of this magical time.

“Opening presents,” said Lexi.

“Holidays,” said Lenora.

“Spending time with my family,” said Blaze.

Some adults noted that food and baking was instead the best part.

“All the special food that is made; shortbread cookies, lefsa, prune buns, and brown sugar candy,” said Betty.

“My family stuffing recipe,” said Sue.

“All the good food,” said June.

Many families await yearly Christmas traditions, kept from generations before them.

“We get together with family on the holidays to play cards or silly games,” said Gerri.

“One of our favorite things is the pickle ornament we hide on the tree for the kids. The first to spot the pickle gets a present,” said Erin.

However, sometimes the funniest memory of Christmas is when children write their lists.

“My nine-year-old sister asked for a mustang, “said Kaelynn.

“My daughter asked for pickles and cucumbers,” said Jill.

“One year an entire Grade three class asked for jars of olives,” said Susan.

Many people said Christmas lights are something they look forward to all year long.

“My favorites are all the colorful lights…. on the Christmas trees, on the houses, yards and streets. It gets so dark out so early at this time of the year that they bring some beauty and sense of peace and calm to the darkness,” said Pam.

“All the lights,” said Jordyn.

And some just like to experience a glimpse of memories from when they were young.

“The magic surrounding it and how it makes you feel like a kid again,” said Matt.

No matter what your favorite part of the holidays are, battlefordsNOW is wishing you a safe and happy Christmas.
